Setting up iSpy Server:
To enable you to connect to webcams running on other computers around your home or office we have included a seperate program called iSpy Server. This is basically a much slimmed down version of iSpy that doesn't have any motion detection or alerting code built in,
and therefore has a much lower processor impact than the main application has
(it should be able to easily run in the background whilst people work on the
same PC).
iSpy Server takes your webcam and creates a server on your local network that the
main iSpy application can then connect to and retrieve images from. Follow the steps below to Install iSpy Server on any computer on your local network that has a webcam attached.
- Copy the ispyserverinstaller.msi file from the ispy install directory
(C:\Program Files\iSpy\iSpy Console\iSpyServerInstaller.msi) to the computer
with the webcam attached (the target computer).
- Login to the target computer and install iSpyServer by double clicking on the
.msi file.
- Start iSpyServer (Start->All Programs->iSpy->iSpy Server)
- Add your camera to the workspace
- Note the address that appears under your camera. It starts with http://. This
is the address you will use to connect to this camera over your network.
- Back in the main iSpy application, add a camera and specify JPEG source.
Click on Find, and then click Search All. It should return a list of all
available iSpy Server cameras running on your local network. If not, copy the
address you noted down in step 5 and paste it into this box.
- Your remote camera feed should now be running over your local network. You can now
set motion detection and alerts on your remote cameras.
Note: iSpy Server uses port 257 to communicate over. You can change this from
File->Settings.
